On Saturday morning, the Hobart Varsity Cheerleaders piled onto a bus and headed to the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois to compete in the US Finals competition. The team had won a full paid bid to this competition by winning their previous one at Crawfordsville High School. Warm up time was 4:00. The girls began to practice, three different mats were set up backstage in order to practice stunts, tumbling, and jumps. You were allowed to be at each mat for about 8 minutes until they booted you off for the next team to warm up.
When it was finally time to take the floor, the girls were overwhelmed with nerves. Their name was called, and they ran out on the floor. The spot lights were so bright on them, they could hardly see the audience. The music started and they hit an awesome routine.
When awards finally rolled around, the girls filled with nerves once again. The announcer stated that the winner for the Advanced Varsity Division was the Hobart Varsity Cheerleaders! The announcer also stated that Hobart would be representing Chicago by sending their video to be judged against 6 other teams in the Champions Challenge. The girls received a trophy, a banner, and white jackets. The girls score sheet showed that they received a total score of 89.47 out of 95. They received a 9 out of 9 on jumps and an 8.2 out of 9 on tumbling. The girls did an awesome job and we can’t wait to see how they rank in the champions challenge.
