On September 16th, 2023, the Hobart High school Marching Band hosted their 10th annual Marching Band Festival. A total of 10 bands joined and played their Marching Band Show. Hobart had played last and was rated gold with a visual and music award! Our Brickies had worked incredibly hard this summer and we are so proud of them! I had the chance to interview a couple of students, one of them being a freshman who was a part of the marching band. I asked him, “When Hobart stepped onto the field, what were you thinking? What did you expect from their performance?” He replied, “I was very nervous and I expected someone to fall because I thought it would be a trainwreck because we have never been here. But I was wrong and we did incredible.” Even though he has played in halftime shows and had gone to another festival before this festival, he’s still pretty nervous. Which is so normal because the spotlight is all on the band and we wouldn’t want to mess up or fall. I have also interviewed Senior Emily Hughes, and Band Director Mrs. Rehlander. I asked them both the same questions. Emily said,”,” and Mrs. Rehlander said this, “,”
After all of the bands played, all of the drum majors from each school lined up in front of the home side of the football field. They told each drum major what their rating was. When the judges got to Hobart, they said that they received gold with music and visual awards! I asked Miles, Emily, and Mrs. Rehlander how they felt before they announced the ratings and what they thought they were going to get.. Miles said, “I believed we would get a silver because it was our first time and we had major improvements.”
