Brickie E-sports traveled to Ball State University on Saturday to compete in the Indiana E-sports Network State Championships. E-sports is a rapidly growing platform with millions of followers around the world. Players competing in game titles have to think strategically, communicate effectively in real time, and quickly adapt to constantly changing situations in-game. They have to have strong teamwork and dedication to win in the incredibly competitive games, and our Brickies have proven they can do just that.
Throughout their season, E-sports players compete online against other schools in their division across the state leading up to the playoffs at the end of the season. At the end of playoffs, Varsity teams who make it to the championships compete in-person. This year, 40 schools across 3 state divisions were invited to the championships where just over 1,000 people gathered to play, watch, and cheer!
This year Brickie E-sports played hard and brought home two state championship titles, one for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and one for Rocket League, and they also brought home one runner-up title for Valorant. Theteam also went to state to compete in a 4-team competition and they placed 3rd after a very tough battle. We are very proud of all of our players!
Additionally, two of our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players fought their way into a solo SSBU competition called the Hoosier Saga, where they competed to make the Top 8 of all high school Super Smash Bros. players in the state. The qualifying competition took place at the IEN State Championships. Xavier took 9th place and Daveion took 1st place! Daveion will move on to compete in the Hoosier Saga Finals in May against the best players in the state.
As Brickie Esports members end their year, many are seniors preparing to move on to the next stage of their lives. As a continuously growing competition, esports has opened up many opportunities for students going into college and beyond. Most colleges compete in esports in their collegiate leagues and scholarship opportunities are abundant. 12 colleges were present at the state championships this year recruiting and talking to players about these opportunities. Many Hobart esports students have received scholarships to play at the collegiate level. Those interested in joining Brickie Esports can reach out to any of the coaches for more information!
Congratulations to our Brickie Esports teams!
